Today we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr., an admirable man whose dream was to see a day when his children and all people were judged not on race, skin color, social status, or money, but the CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER!
I say a hearty AMEN to that! And ever since I first read it, I have tried to let that be my guide.
I was in High School when he was murdered, doing normal high school things, riding around the What-A-Burger in my cousin’s convertible, being cute, feeling invincible as only the young can do! I did not realize the importance or the significance of what Martin Luther King, Jr., stood for or what he had done, and certainly did not realize why anyone would shoot him and want him dead. As if death can silence a good man. They tried that with Jesus, and it didn’t work! Mankind can be so stupid!
Early this morning, I read a quote by MLK, which is perfect for this time:
“When our days become dreary with low hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is a creative force in this universe working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, a power that can make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows.”
Thank you to The Victory Channel for this part of Martin Luther King’s belief as a reminder.
MLK, Jr. mentions the pulling down of “gigantic mountains of evil” and what could be a more fitting way to celebrate this great American than by joining in the effort of pulling down mountains of evil in this generation. It is a battle that must be fought by every generation until Jesus returns!
The mountains that surround us and influence every area of life have been identified as The Seven Mountains of Influence, They are:
- Home/family
- Church/religion
- Education
- Business
- Media
- Arts & Entertainment
- Government
Working from the internal, as God always does — remember? Out of the heart come all the issues of life!! So beginning with the home and family, start taking authority over the evil influence in the home, binding the enemy to silence in the name of Jesus and forbidding him to interfere in any manner whatsoever with what Jesus Christ desires to do in your family. Then ask for God’s kingdom to come and His will to be done in each family member and your family as a whole.
Next, bind the enemy to silence in our churches and forbid him to interfere with what Jesus Christ desires to do in His church. Remember, it’s the Church of Jesus Christ — we exist only for His purposes on earth — not for social gatherings, not for our own safety and comfort, but to serve his Kingdom and to further it with every thing we do. Declare boldly that Jesus Christ is Lord over His Church and all the earth.
Move on to education and bind the enemy to silence in our schools and universities, where they promote a godless curriculum raised up against the knowledge of God in every sphere. Pray for God’s kingdom to come, and His will to be done in education.
(It’s important in this kind of warfare to take the authority Jesus gave us to bind the enemy to silence first because his only weapon is deception. Then to ask for God’s kingdom to come in our hearts and mind – His kingdom, which is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.)
Business!! The same process binds the enemy to silence in Jesus’ name and forbids him to interfere with what Jesus desires to do in the area of businesses. Repent for yielding our hard-earned money to businesses that use that money unrighteously. Refuse to support them any longer. Use small, locally owned businesses, ask for God’s kingdom to come in that area, put down the wicked, and raise up the righteous in every area.
Media — Ah, the media!. In a free country, the media is vital as long as it is truthful and accurate. Our forefathers rebelled against Great Britain’s censorship and control of all the content given to the Colonies. That’s why Freedom of Speech was first on the list of freedoms spelled out in our Bill of Rights, which reads:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
I hardly need to point out that many local governments infringe upon these rights in almost every way in the false name of keeping us safe. Our Founding Fathers knew that given the freedom, Americans were and are perfectly able to keep our own selves safe and healthy.
Arts and Entertainment, while not essential, is perhaps the most directly influential of them all, that song in the background while riding in the car or doing work, that’s declaring boldly that it’s “only a one-night stand with a one-night standard” and the visual effect of soft porn on every movie with innuendo in every sitcom including children’s cartoons and digital games. The method is the same because the enemy’s scheme is the same: to deceive one into thinking there’s no harm in watching/listening to these things. The truth is that whatever goes into the heart/mind comes out in thoughts, emotions, and actions. And that is LIFE!
So repent if necessary where you’ve let your guard down and bind the enemy to silence, forbid him to interfere with what the Lord, Jesus Christ desires to do in you and in the things we call entertainment and art. Ask for God’s kingdom to come, and His will to be done through that mountain.
And finally, Government! We are painfully aware that the enemy of graft, fraud, theft, deception, and murder is running rampant in places of government all across this land. It is time we recognized the real enemy and bound him to silence along with his minions, and in the name and authority of Jesus Christ, began to pull down this evil mountain which has a stranglehold on the government “of the People, by the People, and for the People.”
Don’t let anyone deceive you into thinking that you have no power. You have all the power and authority of the man who hung on that cross in perfect obedience to the plan He agreed upon with His Father and conquered the enemy for us. In His name, we rise up and take our rightful place in His army and occupy until He comes. Jesus retained perfect power to call upon legions of angels to fight for Him and prevent His death and torture on the cross at the hands of men full of sin and evil. Still, He chose not to exercise that power so that you and I could be free, could rise up in His power now and fight the good fight.
If we don’t, we render his sacrifice null and void, useless, of no importance, and we decide our fate throughout Eternity.
So on this day, rise up in celebration of that great victory on the cross, which influenced Martin Luther and his namesake, Martin Luther King, Jr., to stand for freedom, for Christian character, for Truth.
Let their voices be heard . . . Lest We Forget . . .
